What screening and immunisation is required?
For roles that carry an infection risk, protecting people is a two-part process: checking what someone is already immune to, then immunising against what they are not. Getting both correct matters, for the employee, for the patients or public they work with, and for your compliance record.
We screen and immunise to UKHSA standards and, for healthcare roles, to UKHSA's health-clearance guidance – checking immunity to measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, confirming hepatitis B protection by antibody level, assessing tuberculosis status, and closing any immunisation gaps. Use the tool below to see common requirements for specific roles.

Tetanus, diphtheria, polio and MMR – the baseline the Green Book expects of all staff, whatever the role.
Green Book, chapter 12Measles immunity in patient-facing staff
In January 2026 the UK lost its WHO measles elimination status, after cases climbed across the country. An unprotected patient-facing worker is a transmission risk to vulnerable and pregnant patients, and a gap in your compliance record.
Confirming two documented MMR doses, or immunity by antibody test, for every patient-facing employee is the first check to make.
What's at stake if screening slips
Immunisation protects patients and staff, and keeps your compliance record complete.
Risk to patients & staff
An unprotected worker can transmit a serious infection to patients, or fall ill themselves.
Compliance & inspection
Immunity and clearance records are checked in CQC and contractual assurance – we provide the evidence you need for HR records.
Outbreaks & exclusion
When a case appears, susceptible staff may be excluded while immunity is established. Screening up front prevents that.
With a managed programme in place, we handle the screening, the immunisations and the records.
How a Medwyn immunisation programme works
Review & risk assessment
We review the roles, the setting and any existing records to establish exactly what screening and immunisation each person needs.
Screen & check immunity
We collate vaccination history and take relevant bloods to confirm immunity to MMR, hepatitis B, varicella and TB status – so nobody is vaccinated unnecessarily.
Immunise the gaps
We provide the vaccinations needed to close any gaps, following the Green Book schedule, on site or at our clinic.
Confirm & record
Post-course antibody checks where required (for example hepatitis B response), with clear documentation for your files.
Anti-HBs confirms protectionClearance where needed
For exposure-prone procedures, EPP health clearance against UKHSA's health-clearance guidance, using an identified validated sample.
Ongoing & boosters
We prompt and manage boosters and any repeat checks, so your workforce stays protected and your records stay current.
Immunisation FAQs
The questions employers ask most about immunisation programmes.
Both, appropriately. For measles, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B we check what someone is already immune to before immunising – it avoids unnecessary vaccination and gives you a clear record. Where evidence of immunity already exists, no vaccine is needed.
Exposure-prone procedures (EPPs) are those where a worker's blood could contaminate a patient's open tissues. Staff who perform them – including many surgical, midwifery and dental roles – need additional health clearance for bloodborne viruses, using an identified validated blood sample, under UKHSA's health-clearance guidance. We advise whether a given role requires it and carry out the clearance.
Ancillary staff who may come into contact with blood or body fluids – cleaners, porters and laundry staff among them – should be assessed too, most commonly for hepatitis B protection. We include them in your programme so nobody who may be exposed is missed.
Yes. Our clinicians travel to your premises with everything needed to screen and immunise a group in one visit, which suits larger intakes. Individual appointments at our Surrey clinic are also available.
Yes. Seasonal flu vaccination is a common workplace programme, particularly in healthcare and social care, and we deliver it on site to protect staff and reduce winter absence.
No – travel health is a separate service. This page covers immunisation against workplace infection risk. For staff travelling overseas for work, see our travel health page.
