Fit for work at height, confirmed by an occupational health physician
Wind turbine technicians work at height, in confined spaces and often far from immediate help, so operators require a fitness assessment to the RenewableUK medical standard before you work on site. It confirms you are fit for climbing, rescue and the physical demands of turbine work.
The Chester Step test – the fitness test the standard normally requires – is carried out as part of your appointment. An occupational health physician oversees your care.
RenewableUK standard

Wind turbine medical questions
A step test that measures your aerobic fitness for climbing and rescue work. You step on and off a low platform in stages while we monitor your heart rate. It is included in your £310.
For most wind roles, yes – it's the fitness test the RenewableUK standard is normally assessed with, so it's included in your £310 as standard. If your operator has confirmed your role doesn't require it, untick it when you book and the £50 comes off, bringing your medical to £260. If you're not sure which applies to you, ask us before you book and we'll check the requirement with you.
The assessment follows the RenewableUK medical standard recognised across the UK wind industry. Some operators set additional requirements – tell us yours and we'll confirm everything before you book.
Allow up to 90 minutes, which includes the Chester Step fitness test. If you also work offshore in oil and gas, ask us about combining requirements in one visit.

GWO (Global Wind Organisation) training providers require confirmation that you are medically fit before the practical modules, such as working at height. Most accept a current RenewableUK medical certificate. If your provider has its own form, bring it to your appointment and we will complete it.
